American Discovery Textile Manufacturing Expands

Glasgow, MO – The Moberly Area Economic Development Corporation is pleased to announce

that American Discovery Textile Manufacturing, LLC is expanding their operations in Glasgow. ADTM continues to house a full scale design, cut and sew operation and is expanding into third-party production, assembly and packaging.

Founded in 2008, ADTM currently employs 26 people with plans to add 38 in the next twelve months. The total investment for the company will be $577,500 within the next two years. Their history began with the announced closure of a sleeping bag manufacturer in 2008 after over 50 years in Glasgow. Community leaders Jason Monnig and Heather Johnson stepped in to preserve the expertise of the workers in that facility, and started a new success story in Glasgow. After less than ten years in business, this expansion is evidence of the hard work and dedication of ADTM and its employees.

"The community of Glasgow benefits greatly from ADTM's successful operation. ADTM creates revenue for our town and most importantly provides jobs for families and students close to home. None of which would be possible without the diligence, ingenuity and love of our employees for their company.” Said Heather Johnson, owner of ADTM. “I am proud to be affiliated with ADTM and we look forward to exponential growth and financial success in our future."

Glasgow Mayor Fred Foley stressed the importance of ADTM in the community. “When you look at the history of this facility, ADTM since 2008 and 50 years before that, it has been a longtime part of Glasgow. I am very proud of our ability to retain and expand jobs in this competitive industry. ADTM and especially the Monnig family are pillars of our community and this expansion is another contribution from them.”

The project was supported through a number of tools from the Federal, State and Local Level. The project won $1,155,000 in competitive funding through the Economic Development Administration, an agency within the US Department of Commerce. The project also received awards from the state of Missouri through Missouri Works and Community Development Block Grant totaling $577,500. The EDA and CDBG awards were specific to infrastructure improvements at the American Discovery property and the immediate area. The City of Glasgow also supported the project through Chapter 353 tax abatement.

This collaborative approach is something to be proud of according to Corey Mehaffy, President of the Moberly Area Economic Development Corporation. “When we can bring resources from the Federal, State and Local level it shows the quality of the projects happening in Glasgow, Howard County and the MAEDC region. The leadership in the business community in Howard County is something everyone should take pride in and it is what makes projects like these possible.”

“Glasgow has been an excellent place to do business and the recent activity in the Monnig Industrial Park is proof of that.” Said Howard County Economic Development Council Member and Glasgow City Councilman Kirk Biere. “Howard County’s partnership with MAEDC helps us bring big projects like these online, when we can bring Federal and State dollars back to Glasgow it shows a great return on our investment. ADTM’s work since 2008 has been very impressive and I am happy to see them growing and adding jobs in the community.”

MAEDC wishes to thank the City of Glasgow, Howard County Commission, Howard County Economic Development Council, Missouri Department of Economic Development, Molly McGovern Consulting, and the Mid Missouri Regional Planning Commission.
