Socket Nears Completion on Broadband Expansion Project

Socket is proud to announce the expansion of its fiber-optic broadband network to Moberly, which brings ultra-fast internet and reliable telephone service to approximately 200 area businesses.

With speeds up to one gigabit per second or even faster, fiber-optic technology is the fastest, most reliable connection available. Its large bandwidth capacity is considered future-proof and will accommodate increased internet usage for decades to come.

“We’re incredibly excited to bring fiber-optic technology to Moberly,” said George Pfenenger, Socket CEO and co-owner. “Fiber delivers the speed, reliability and flexibility that area businesses need in order to be competitive in today’s market.”

Construction on the expansion project began earlier this year and is expected to wrap up by early 2018. Socket chose to expand to Moberly due to a need for more high-speed internet options in the area, as well as the receptiveness of city officials to the project.

“Rural high-speed internet access is critical to attract new business investment from existing or new employers, assist law enforcement, improve rural healthcare and expand education and worker training opportunities,” said Corey Mehaffy, president of Moberly Area Economic Development Corporation. “Our businesses are competing in a

global economy which requires continued expansion of fiber-optic networks to meet new technological requirements. We are grateful for our partnership with Socket and their willingness to offer cost-effective, reliable internet services throughout the MAEDC Region.”
