Today the Missouri House of Representatives recognizes the Moberly Area Economic Development Corporation (MAEDC) Small Business & Technology Development Center for National SBDC Day. Representative Tim Remole presented a resolution to Ryan Eidson, Entrepreneurship Specialist at MAEDC, to mark the occasion.
“Since I started at the beginning of this year, I have worked with Moberly area businesses on succession planning to retain local ownership,” said Eidson. “I am also working with local entrepreneurs on new business ideas to bring products and services to the market.”
Eidson, who is part of the Missouri Small Business & Technology Development Center (SBTDC) network, serves the seven-county region of Randolph, Howard, Monroe, Macon, Shelby, Marion, and Ralls through a cooperative agreement with the University of Missouri Extension. This year is the first year MAEDC has hosted the SBTDC program.
In fiscal years 2013-2017, when Moberly Area Community College hosted the SBTDC program, the staff had a sizable impact of business counseling and training events. During those five years, staff worked with 214 clients resulting in a combined $4,082,308.17 sales increase, $44,706,635.00 in capitalization, 127 jobs created and 14 jobs retained in northeast Missouri. The staff also hosted 18 training events, educating 86 individuals on various business topics.
The nationwide statistics are even more impressive. Clients of this program start a new business every 30 minutes, create a new job every 5.5 minutes, generate $100,000 in new sales every 8.2 minutes, and raise $100,000 in capital every 10 minutes. Job growth for these clients is nearly 10 times greater than job growth for average businesses, and client sales growth is nearly 4 times greater than sales growth for businesses in general.
Missouri SBTDC is an accredited member of America's SBDC, the program hosting National SBDC Day. SBDC Day is a national movement to help share the small business success stories and notable impact SBDCs have fostered in communities nationwide.
