Chariton Valley Funds Family and Consumer Science Program Upgrade at Westran R-1

CLIFTON HILL, MO — October 22, 2025 — Chariton Valley, in partnership with the Foundation for Rural Service (FRS), has awarded a $4,872 community grant to Westran R-1 Middle School to upgrade kitchen appliances in its Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) program. The new commercial-grade, energy-efficient equipment will enhance instructional quality, safety and inclusivity—giving students opportunities to build practical skills in nutrition and kitchen safety.

“This grant means I have the opportunity to give my students learning experiences with tools that truly work,” said Mrs. Maag-Blanding, 7th/8th Grade FCS Teacher. “It will

help them build life skills and confidence they can carry far beyond the classroom.”

This project will benefit 120 students this year and many more in the future.

“Chariton Valley is proud to continue its longstanding support of youth in our communities,” said Ryan Johnson, Chariton Valley President & CEO. “Providing educational tools that build skills, and confidence is a meaningful investment in the future of rural Missouri.”
