David Gaines Joins the Moberly Area EDC Team PDF Print E-mail

david-gainesMoberly, MO. – Corey Mehaffy, President of the Moberly Area Economic Development Corporation announced today that MAEDC will be adding a new full-time economic development professional to its staff. Mehaffy added, “On behalf of the Board of Directors and staff of the Moberly Area Economic Development Corporation I am excited to welcome David Gaines to our staff. David is an experienced economic development professional with a history of successful projects and I am confident that he will be a great fit for our organization.” Mr. Gaines will join the staff of MAEDC as the organization’s Vice President on September 1, 2010. Prior to joining the MAEDC team, Mr. Gaines served as the Executive Director for Montgomery City Growth, Inc since December of 2007. Mr. Gaines has held management positions in varying industries including economic development, financial services and broadcast media.

“We are very excited about this opportunity,” said Mr. Gaines. “Moberly and the surrounding areas are a great place to do business. There are numerous benefits to being in business in the Moberly area both nationally and as we have seen recently, internationally as well.”

Funding Approved for Hampton Alternative Energy PDF Print E-mail

Moberly, MO. – The Missouri Department of Economic Development has announced approval of state tax credits for a Triplett business under the Enhanced Enterprise Zone (EEZ) program to assist in the creation of new jobs and investment in Chariton County. Hampton Alternative Energy Products, LLC an affiliate of Hampton Feed Lot, Inc has been approved for $119, 204 in EEZ tax credits over a five-year period.

According to Corey Mehaffy, President of Moberly Area Economic Development Corporation, the Hampton project is very exciting for Chariton County. Mehaffy said, “This is exactly the type of project the Commissioners and MAEDC envisioned for the County when we established our partnership in 2009.” Mehaffy added, “One of our first tasks in our efforts in Chariton County was to establish a County-wide Enhanced Enterprise Zone in an effort to both attract new business investment to the County as well as encourage existing businesses to expand their operations. The Hampton project is the first to receive benefit under the EEZ program in Chariton County and I am excited about the activity we are experiencing in the County.” Chariton County Presiding Commissioner Tony McCollum added, “The Hampton project is an example of the importance of having an active economic development effort for the County as well as having key economic development tools like the EEZ in the toolbox. This is yet another example of growth that can occur when the public and private sectors work together to create new investment.”

"Moberly Leading the US in Job Creation" PDF Print E-mail
According to former Governor Holden there are other Chinese firms, besides Mamtek, that are looking at Moberly for potential business development. Holden went on to say that Moberly is leading the US in this type of job creation. He attributed much of the success to the hard work of city officials and the Moberly Area EDC. Holden is now the Midwest US China Association Chairman. He made these comments in an interview with KWIX radio click here to hear his comments.

Local, state and international dignitaries on Saturday morning took part in a groundbreaking ceremony for Mamtek’s $46 million investment into the local economy. The Chinese-based company is expanding its operations here to produce Sweet0 brand sucralose, which is a healthy substitute sweetener. Shown above are Tom Smith of the site consulting firm of Capital Business Development Associates, former Missouri Governor Bob Holden who is chairman of Midwest U.S.-China Association, Mamtek Chief Operating Officer Reena Gordon, Mamtek International Chairman Bruce Cole and Moberly Mayor Bob Riley.  Other dignitaries participating in the ceremony were Lynne Shea project manager of the Missouri Department of Economic Development, Tom Cunningham who serves as legal counsel on this project on behalf of the City of Moberly, Joe Snodgrass of Septagon Construction Co., MAEDC President Corey Mehaffy and MAEDC Board Chairman Jerry Jeffrey.
